Two top ten finishes highlighted the Belle Plaine team’s performance at last week’s state co-ed track meet at Drake Stadium in Des Moines.
The shuttle hurdle relay team of Keegan DeMeulenaere, Brayden Morrow, Seivon Steward and Tate DeMeulenaere finished second in the finals, with a time of 59.05, just .06 behind the winning time of Dyersville Beckman. The Plainsmen qualified with a fifth place finish in the preliminaries.
Dani Coover had the other top ten local finish. After placing sixth in the prelims, she finished fifth in the girls’ 100 meter hurdle event.
In other girls’ events, the 4 x 200 relay team of Coover, Paige Henning, Mallory Brandt and Melissa Janss was tenth. Megan Abernathy placed 12th in the long jump and Taylor Schafbuch was 14th in the 400 meter hurdles.
The boys’ distance medley relay team of Steward, Brian Crow, Myles Kelly and Tyler Brandt finished tenth. The 4 x 100 meter relay team of Tate DeMeulenaere, Crow, Myles Kelly and Steward was 13th. Crow placed 15th in the 100 meter dash and Tate DeMeulenaere was 19th in the 110 meter hurdles.



Jeff, I could not get the contact us to work for me, so I am going to try to get through this way. Could you put up a little piece on girls track. We won conference for the 3rd year in a row. State meet performances Taylor Schafbuch placed 14th at state in a time of 1:08.25. Girls 4 X 200 place 10th in a time of 1:48.71. Megan Abernathy placed 12th in the long jump of 15’5″ and Dani Coover ran a 16.13 in the prelimes to qualify for the finals in the 100 hurdles where she ran a 15.65 to place 5th. She also set a new school record in the 100 hurdles with the new 33″ hurdle height.
