BP girls win two of three in SICL

Belle Plaine’s varsity softball team won two of three SICL Conference contests last week. They are 6-1 in conference play, second only two league-leading Iowa Valley at 6-0.

This week, they travel to Sigourney tonight (Monday), then step out of the conference for a doubleheader at Vinton-Shellsburg on Tuesday before traveling to Montezuma on Friday. On Saturday, they will play in the Vinton-Shellsburg Tourney.

The following is a recap of their conference action from last week:

BP 12, HLV 2
The Plainsmen pounded out a dozen hits, including seven doubles, to pick up the win. Katie Walton had two doubles and drove in four. Megan Ehlen also had two doubles and three hits with three stolen bases. Kristen Bevins also had two doubles, four RBIs and a stolen base. Melissa Janss had three hits, drove in a run and stole three bases. Macy DeMeulenaere had a double and RBI. Molly O’Brien drove in a run and had two stolen bases.

Joy Cronbaugh pitched all five innings and scattered five hits and struck out one.

North Mahaska 4, BP 3
The Plainsmen had seven hits in the contest. Walton had two hits with a double and an RBI. Bevins also had two hits and O’Brien had a stolen base.

Bevins pitched all seven innings, giving up just four hits with two strikeouts. The team had just one error in the game.

BP 9 BGM 2
The Plainsmen went on the offensive once again, with 10 hits. Brenna Ford had two hits and an RBI with a stolen base. Bevins had two hits, Ehlen had two hits with a double. Janss drove in two and had a double, Taylor Schafbuch had a triple and RBI and Cronbaugh also drove in a run.

Bevins gave up five hits and struck out six for the Plainsmen.
