Three seats will be up for election on the Belle Plaine City Council in November and with the deadline for filing of nomination papers looming later this week, all three incumbent councilmen have indicated they will seek re-election.
First Ward Councilman Marv DeRycke is completing his second term on the council. Third Ward Councilman James Kurovski is completing his first term and Councilman At-Large Garrison Reekers is in his first full month on the council, after being appointed to fill a vacancy created by the resignation of Steve Beck.
According to City Clerk Kaye Buch, as of late this week, there was no apparent opposition for the three councilmen. Residents have until Thursday at 5 p.m. to return nomination papers, which are available at City Hall. Councilmen serve a four-year term.

Reekers is a great addition to the council. It’s nice to see the council make a good decision in appointing Reekers. He’s a excellent asset to the city. Good to see new faces in our city government.
