The weekend meltdown after the midweek big dig is behind us and as we woke up Monday morning to misty skies and a two-hour delay in the start of school, we also face the home stretch when it comes to the end of school activities for another calendar year and final holiday preparations.
Wednesday seems to be the big day this week for non-athletic activities. The Belle Plaine Board of Education will meet at a special time, 5 p.m., at the district offices at Longfellow Elementary School. The board will discuss some personnel matters and review needed calendar adjustments for the three days missed last week due to the bad weather.
The change in time for this month’s meeting clears the way for the holiday concert for grades 7-12 at the high school, beginning at 7 p.m.
Also on Wednesday, men’s open gym for basketball will be held at Lee Gym from 7-9 p.m.
The last full week of the year before the Christmas break will be a busy one for wrestling and basketball teams. Tonight (Monday), the boys will host English Valleys for a varsity-JV doubleheader, while the girls will be at English Valleys. On Tuesday, both teams will be home to host Lynnville-Sully. They will also be home on Friday, hosting Keota.
The wrestlers travel to Lynnville-Sully on Tuesday, where they will also face Colfax-Mingo and Southeast Warren. This is a change from the activities calendar, needed due to a low number of wrestlers at North Mahaska and Montezuma, school officials said. On Saturday, they will compete in the Lisbon Duals for their last meet before the break.
