BP girls fall to Hawks

Belle Plaine got in the way of a frustrated Lynnville-Sully girls team that had a five-game winning streak until being handed a 22-point defeat by North Mahaska on Friday. Tuesday night, the visiting Hawks made a statement as they stopped the Plainsmen 39-23.
After the Plainsmen put eight points on the board in the first quarter, they were held scoreless in the second period. They had seven in the third and eight points in the last quarter.
Dani Coover once again paced the Plainsmen with eight points. She also had eight rebounds, five steals and three blocked shots. Joy Cronbaugh finished with six points, as she hit two of four three-pointers. She also had five rebounds. Taylor Schafbuch had three points and two assists. Katie Croft finished with two points and two rebounds. Macy DeMeulenaere had two points, two rebounds and a block. Melissa Janss also had two points and Laura Breja had three rebounds and three steals.
Belle Plaine hit on just 10 of 42 shots from the field, including three of 10 three-point tries. The Plainsmen also had 17 turnovers.
After hosting Keota Friday night, the Plainsmen will hit the road on Monday to take on Tri-County in the final game before the Christmas break.
