There are plenty of local activities to keep us all warm and active this week, including a double dose of meetings with the city council and board of education both in session, a full slate of school sports action and a couple of other activities thrown in the mix.
Tonight (Monday) the Belle Plaine City Council meets in a work session at 5 p.m. and regular session at 6 p.m. at City Hall. Council members will begin wrestling with the budget for the upcoming fiscal year in their work session at 5 p.m. Items listed on the regular meeting agenda include approval for a private contractor agreement for tree removal and an engineering service agreement for acquisition of snow removal equipment at the airport, a payment on the aquatic facility and the second of three readings on a change in the city’s curfew ordinance.
Both meetings are open to the public.
On Wednesday, the Belle Plaine Board of Education meets at the Administration Center at Longfellow Elementary School. This month’s meeting begins at 5 p.m. Among the items on the agenda are some possible personnel matters, consideration of a purchase of a school vehicle and review of some board policies.
Friday morning will be the regular preschool story time at the Belle Plaine Public Library beginning at 9:30 a.m.
This week’s high school sports slate is also active. Tonight (Monday), the varsity boys and girls basketball teams travel to Sigourney. Tuesday, the wrestling team hosts Grinnell and Marshalltown in a double dual beginning at 6 p.m. On Saturday, the varsity wrestlers travel to the Louisa-Muscatine Tourney.
In a change from the activity calendar, the JV boys and girls basketball teams will host Iowa Valley Saturday beginning at 10 a.m.
