Plainsman girls top Tri-County

Belle Plaine bounced back from a two-game losing string earlier in the week to post a 35-25 victory over Tri-County Friday night in girls’ basketball action.
The Plainsmen held the visitors scoreless in the first quarter and took a 9-0 first period lead, increasing it to 20-9 at the half and 31-18 after three quarters.
It was a tough shooting night for both teams. Belle Plaine hit just 11 of 46 shots from the field, but five of 16 three-point attempts. Tri-County hit just eight of 33 attempts from the field. The Plainsmen had a 36-27 lead in rebounds and the visiting team had a 29-22 lead in turnovers.
Dani Coover paced the Plainsmen with 14 points. She also had 10 rebounds, five steals and two blocks. Macy DeMeulenaere had seven points, three rebounds, two assists, five steals and a block. Taylor Schafbuch also had seven points, four rebounds, eight assists and four steals. Joy Cronbaugh finished with six points and three rebounds. Laura Breja had a point, nine rebounds, two steals and a block. Katie Croft added five rebounds and Melissa Janss had two.
