This week in Belle Plaine

As we begin the second full week of February, that tired old phrase, “Weather permitting” rears its ugly head as we look at planned activities in and around the city. Yet another winter storm threatens to curtail some of the events.

Community activities on the calendar begin tonight with the planning and zoning board set to meet at City Hall at 7 p.m. On Tuesday, the park board meets at City Hall at 5 p.m.
On Friday, preschool story time will be held at the Belle Plaine Public Library at 9:30 a.m. And on Sunday, the Knights of Columbus will sponsor a pancake breakfast at the Catholic Church from 7:30 a.m. to noon.
Basketball and wrestling action is strong again this week, with all three teams in action. The boys will host HLV tonight (Monday). The boys and girls host Iowa Valley on Tuesday. Friday, Sigourney comes to town for a JV-varsity boys doubleheader. On Saturday, the girls how BGM in the first round of regional action.
Fresh from their strong showing in Saturday’s sectional tourney last Saturday, the wrestling squad travels to Pekin Tuesday for the regional dual tourney. Then on Saturday, nine members of the Plainsman wrestling squad travel to Eddyville-Blakesburg for the district tourney, seeking state tourney qualification.
