Janss on all-conference first team

Belle Plaine landed one player on the first team, one on the second and three received honorable mention in voting for the SICL boys’ basketball all-conference team this season.
Senior Chris Janss claimed first team honors for the Plainsmen. He was also named to the academic all-state honorable mention list. Plainsman junior Ben Ehlen was a second team selection. His coach, Justin Northrop, said this week that at least one other coach in the conference said Ehlen was the toughest player to guard he had seen all season and he missed being named to the first team by one point.
Receiving honorable mention for the Plainsmen were junior Keegan DeMeulenaere and seniors Seivon Steward and John Long.
Eight schools were represented on the ten-man first team. State tourney qualifier Lynnville-Sully was represented by junior Chase Cullen. BGM had two players on the first unit, seniors Nick Beck and John Roudabush. Other first team members included Brenden Kuesel, senior, HLV; Damon Bryan, senior, Montezuma; Cody Uphold, senior and Casey Sieren, sophomore, Keota; Andrew Utterback, junior, Sigourney; Dylan Boyle, senior, North Mahaska.
Joining Ehlen on the second team were: Joe Saresky, senior, Keota; Andrew Fritz and J.C. Abrahamson, sophomores, Sigourney; Zach Stafford, senior, Corey Gifford, senior and Logan Vos, junior, Lynnville-Sully; Austin Christner, senior, Tri-County; Greg Beatty, senior, BGM; Bryce Kuesel, junior, HLV and D.J. Sutfin, senior, Montezuma.
Other members of the honorable mention list included: BGM: Denzel VanSant and Jordan Hohensee; English Valleys: Lincoln Parmenter; HLV: Derek Cavin, Brandon Leonard and Alex SChnebbe; Iowa Valley: Jacob Swift; Keota: Dillon Horning and Evan Hammes; Lynnville-Sully: Jacob Van Manen, Taylor VanDekrol and Andrew Van Wyk; Montezuma: Victor Bushon and Stephen Vavroch; North Mahaska: Clayton Korell, Kody Lake and Brock Davis; Sigourney: Matt Meier and Logan Klein and Tri-County: Andy Thomas, Tyce Schmidt and Colt Brumbaugh.
HLV senior Sheldon Gryp won the Golden Award and the Coach of the Year Award went to Nick Harthoorn of Lynnville-Sully.
