Belle Plaine Police report

June 21, 8:15 a.m. – Daniel Brodie, 39, was arrested at 701 10th Street and charged with violation of a protective order. He was taken to the Benton County Jai.

June 22, 1:03 p.m. – A Belle Plaine female juvenile was referred to juvenile authorities on a charge of fifth degree theft after items were allegedly taken from the Belle Plaine Pharmacy.

June 22, 2:51 p.m. – The burglary of personal items from 1614 Tenth Avenue remains under investigation.

June 23, 11 a.m. – Ambulance assist in the 1400 block of 12th Avenue.

June 23, 7:02 p.m. – Ambulance assist at 210 Seventh Avenue.

June 24, 2:55 p.m. – Acting on a complaint of door-to-door salesmen in the 1600 block of Tenth Avenue, a subject was directed to obtain a permit from City Hall and to stop sales until the permit was obtained.

June 24, 3:30 p.m. – The Cedar Rapids Police Department requested assistance in regard to the theft of a purse from Wal-Mart in Cedar Rapids. But it was later determined that the suspect was a resident of Iowa County and the matter was referred to Iowa County officials.

June 25, 9:20 a.m. – Theft of golf clubs was reported in the 1600 block of Seventh Avenue. The matter remains under investigation.

June 25, 11 a.m. – Officers assisted in a civil matter at 1106 13th Street.

June 25, 6:06 p.m. – Harassment was reported in the 900 block of 14th Street. A subject was warned.

June 25, 7:19 p.m. – A civil dispute was reported in the 700 block of Ninth Avenue.

June 25, 8:51 p.m. – A reckless drive was reported to be southbound on Highway 21 coming into the city. No such vehicle was found.

June 25, 8:54 p.m. – Ambulance assist in the 1500 block of Fourth Avenue.

June 25, 10:05 p.m. – Texting harassment was reported in the 900 block of Sixth Avenue.

June 26, 12:15 a.m. – Two female juveniles were released to family members after being cited for curfew violations following a traffic stop in the 900 block of Eighth Avenue.

June 26, 12:30 a.m. – A stray dog was reported in the 200 block of 11th Street, but had been retrieved and taken inside before officers arrived.

June 27, 8:52 p.m. – Richard Kesl, belle Plaine, was arrested at 7828 11th Avenue Trail following a traffic stop. He was charged with driving while barred and taken to the Benton County Jail.

June 28, 9:45 a.m. – Police removed a snake from a residence at 501 Eighth Street.

June 28, 4:45 p.m. – Daniel Brodie, Belle Plaine, was charged with three counts of violation of a protective order and a charge of harassment. Officials at the Kollmorgen, Schlue and Zahradnik Law offices reported that Brodie was following a protected party. He was later apprehended in Brooklyn and Poweshiek Sheriff’s deputies returned him to Belle Plaine. He was then taken to the Benton County Jail.

June 29, 2:05 a.m. – A female juvenile was cited for a curfew violation in the 500 block of 13th Street. She was released to her mother.

June 29, 9:50 a.m. – Criminal mischief – damage to city property – was reported in the 800 block of 11th Street. The matter remains under investigation.

June 29, 11:45 p.m. – Harassment was reported in the 1000 block of Seventh Avenue. A subject was warned.

June 30, 12:33 a.m. – A false alarm was sounded at Viet Auto Repair, 1002 Third Avenue.

July 1, no time listed – Residents at 408 16th Street were served with a notice demanding that they reduce the number of dogs at their residence to comply with city code.

July 1 – A complaint of the discharge of fireworks in the 1700 block of Ninth Avenue prompted a warning to subjects in the area.

July 1, 2 a.m. – One subject was cited and released for being a person under legal age in possession of alcohol following a traffic stop at 12th Avenue and 13th Street.

July 3, 12:45 a.m. – Police assisted the Benton County Sheriff’s Department on a report of a female walking in the ditch along a roadway east of the city. They were unable to locate anyone.

July 3, 2:40 a.m. – A noise complaint was reported at 1407 Fifth Avenue. Subjects were warned.

July 3, 11:25 p.m. – Brent Bennett, Tama, was arrested at Eighth Avenue and 13th Street and charged with public intoxication. He was taken to the Benton County Jail.

July 4, 12:30 a.m. – Ambulance assist at the Office Tavern.

July 4, 2:03 a.m. – James Jacobi, 55, of Belle Plaine was charged with OWI-first offense following a traffic stop at 13th Avenue and Eighth Street. He was taken to the Benton County Jail.

July 5, 7:30 a.m. – A theft from the residence at1109 15th Street remains under investigation.

July 5, 9:45 a.m. – A suspected shoplifter was reported at Belle Plaine Pharmacy. Nothing was found.

July 6, 8:57 p.m. – A stray cat was picked up at 508 16th Street and taken to Countryside Veterinary Clinic.

A criminal charge is merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
