Carol S. Hlas 12/20/1942—3/15/2011
Carol S. Hlas, 68, died Tuesday, March 15, 2011 at St. Luke’s Hospital in Cedar Rapids following a long illness. Services will be 1:00 PM Friday at the Christ United Methodist Church in Belle Plaine by Rev. James Campbell. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be 4:00 – 8:00 PM Thursday at the Hrabak Funeral Home and after Noon on Friday at the church.
She is survived by: husband, Don; daughter, Angie Papesh of Belle Plaine; sister, Eunice Houska of Marshalltown; granddaughters, Melinda and Nicole; great-grandchildren, Braylynn Papesh, Parker Toney, and Jason Schulze.
Memorials may be directed to St. Luke’s Hospice or the Marengo Hospital Dialysis Unit.

Robert Leon Seip, 42, died Wednesday, March 2, 2011 at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City following a sudden illness. Friends may gather at the home of Don Phelps at 1402 15th Street on Sunday, March 6 from 2:00 – 4:00 PM.
He is survived by his wife, Nina; sons, Ryan (Elizabeth Homan), Randall, and Richard, all at home; brother, Richard (Mandy) of West Virginia.
Hrabak Funeral Home is serving the family.

Roland “Sonny” A. Schulte 2/17/1929—3/1/2011
A celebration of life for Roland (Sonny) Schulte will be held Saturday, March 5th at 10:30 a.m. at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Norway with the Rev. Brian M. Dellaert officiating. Burial will follow at the St. Michael’s Cemetery in Norway. Visitation will be held today from 4:00 – 7:00 P.M. at St. Michael’s Parish Center followed by a Catholic Forester Rosary at 7:00 p.m. Hrabak Funeral Home is charge of arrangements.
Sonny died Tuesday, March 1 at Evergreen Estates in Cedar Rapids following a brief illness. Sonny was born February 17, 1929 the son of Adam C. and Agnes (Brecht) Schulte in Norway Iowa, where he resided all his life. After attending Norway Schools he helped on the family farm, owned and operated Sonny Schulte Trucking, worked at Amana Refrigeration and retired from Midland Forge.
He was united in marriage to Connie (Reynolds/Cox) on May 22, 1972. He is survived by his wife, step daughters: Rosemary (Garry) O’Rear of Cedar Rapids, Cathy (Rex) Maile of Atkins, Cindy (Randy) Forsyth of Vinton, Debbie (Keith) Schmuecker of Watkins, Vicki (Rick) Hergert of Amana, and Margaret Chapman of Marion, sisters Shirley (Ron) Walter of Cedar Rapids, and Mary Jane (Ed) Gibney of Norway, Sister in laws Betty (Ed) Schulte of Norway, Dorothy(Jim) Schulte of Norway and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Orville, wife Nadine, Ed, Jim, and sisters Marlys and husband Harold Butz and Helen and husband Walter Zweigart.
Sonny enjoyed fishing, playing cards and spending time with family and friends.

Don A. Clemons, Sr., 88, died Tuesday, February 22, 2011 at the Iowa Veteran’s Home in Marshalltown following a lingering illness. Private services will be held. Inurnment will be in Oak Hill Cemetery. Hrabak Funeral home is in charge of arrangements.
He is survived by a daughter, Deborah McMann of North Liberty; sons, Don, Jr. (Debra) of Mineola, TX, Robert (Linda) of Kettering, OH and Josh (Pattie) of Laguna Hills, CA; step-daughters, Tonja Verdeck of Belle Plaine and Teri (Andy) Hartz of Blairstown; also by seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Andrew C. VanNevel, 85, died Thursday, February 3, 2011 at St. Luke’s Hospital in Cedar Rapids from complications following surgery. Funeral Mass will be 10:30 AM Tuesday, February 8 at St. Michael’s Catholic Church by Rev. Michael Mescher and Deacon Joe Behounek. Inurnment will be in Oak Hill Cemetery with Military Rites. Visitation will be 4:00 – 7:00 PM Monday at the Hrabak Funeral home where there will be a scripture service at 6:30.
He is survived by: his wife, Eleanor; daughters, Linda Roggentien of Belle Plaine and Susan (Mike) Rego of Portland, OR; sons, Bill (Cathy) of Belle Plaine and Jim (Tina) of Raleigh, NC; step-son, John Weaver of Marion; brother, Don (Jeanne) of Victor; also by 13 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.
Andy was preceded in death by: his parents; son, Bob; sister, Clara Smith; and step-daughter, Joan Weaver.

He is survived by: a daughter, Carol (Tony) Behounek of Omaha; son, Joe (Vicky) Plesek of Chelsea; also by seven grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.

He is survived by: son, Josh (Michelle) Root of Oxford; daughters, Elizabeth Root of Orlando, Florida, Stephanie Stock of Buckingham, Iowa; sister, Katherine Stull of Tipton; and by two grandchildren, Colin and Sophia.
