Mildred A. Sheda Behounek, 93, died Saturday, October 16, 2010 at the Belle Plaine Nursing & Rehab Center following a long illness. A mass of Christian burial will be 10:30 AM Monday, October 18 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church by Rev Mike Mescher and Deacon Joe Behounek. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 9:00 to service time on Monday.
She is survived by daughters, Connie (Joe) Dvorak of Clutier, Sue (John) Herriage of Olathe, KS and Joedy (Tom) Burton of Omaha; sons, Tom (Carol) Behounek of Montezuma and Joe (Francine) Behounek of Chelsea; also by 19 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.
A memorial fund has been established.

LaVaun D. Edwards, 85, formerly of Belle Plaine and currently of Higley Mansion, died Saturday, October 9, 2010 at the Mercy Medical Center in Cedar Rapids following a short illness. Services will be 10 AM Wednesday, October 13, 2010 at the Hrabak Funeral Home by Rev Jim Campbell. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be 4-7 PM Tuesday at the funeral home.
She is survived by: brother, Marvin (MaryAnn) Keller of Grinnell; three granddaughters, Annette (Jeff) Lockwood of Falling Waters, West Virginia, Tressa Scott of Cedar Rapids, and Tara Sloan of Marion; great-grandsons, Cole Scott & Connor Thompson.

Irene M. Nekola, 83, died Sunday, October 3, 2010 at the Keystone Nursing Care Center from complications of age. A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Thursday, October 7 at St. Michael’s Catholic Church with Rev. Michael Mescher, Celebrant, and Deacon Joe Behounek. Burial will be in Stayskal Cemetery, rural Chelsea. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Wednesday at the Hrabak Funeral Home where there will be a Rosary at 6:30 p.m.
She is survived by: a daughter, Carol Whipple of Dysart; son, Clark (Jennifer) Nekola of Tipton; sister, Evelyn Benesh of Belle Plaine; brother, Manson (Carol) Vokoun of Clutier; and grandsons Ryan, Blair, and Steve.

Patricia L. Veit, 69, of Chelsea, died Wednesday, Sept. 29, 2010, in Hiawatha. Funeral services will be Saturday, Oct. 2, 2010, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Chelsea with interment at St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Chelsea. Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 1, 2010, at the church, with a scripture service set for 6:30 p.m.
She is survived by her husband, Jerry; her mother, Mildred Behounek of Belle Plaine; sons, Nick (Amy) Veit of Marion and Andrew (Jenelle) Veit of Chelsea; daughters, Amy (Rob) Gordon of Omaha and Gretchen (Alex) Sturgeon of Bennington, NE; brothers, Tom (Carol) Behounek of Montezuma and Joe (Francine) Behounek of Chelsea; sisters, Connie (Joe) Dvorak of Clutier, Sue (John) Herriage of Olathe, KS and Clare (Tom) Burton of Omaha; grandchildren, Jacob, Tanner, Abigail, Lauren, Emerson, and Vanessa.
The Hrabak Funeral Home, Belle Plaine, is in charge of arrangements.

John G. Hayes, 63, died Thursday, September 9, 2010 at his home following a brief illness. A Celebration of Life will be from 4:00 – 7:00 PM Monday, September 13 at the Hrabak Funeral Home.
He is survived by his wife, Florence of Belle Plaine; mother, Alice Hayes of Marengo; daughters, Alison (Scott) Foughty of Des Moines and Johnette Hayes of Belle Plaine; grandchildren, Davis, Erica, Madison, Payton and Spencer; sisters, Elaine (Gary) Cooney of Hudson and Gloria (Larry) Schumacher of Marengo; mother-in-law, Wilma Wilson of Belle Plaine; brother and sister-in-law, Tom and Diane Wilson of Marengo.
He was preceded in death by his father, Howard.

Charles H. Formanek, Jr., 86, died Friday, September 3, 2010 at the Belle Plaine Nursing and Rehab Center from natural causes. A Celebration of Life will be held from 3-5 PM Sunday, September 12 at the Hrabak Funeral Home where there will be a prayer service at 4:30 PM by Deacon Joe Behounek. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery following the service.
He is survived by his wife June of Belle Plaine; daughter, Rjean (James W.) Knowles of Omaha; sons, Gary (Sandra) of Cedar Falls, Larry (Lisa) and Roger (Diane), both of Belle Plaine, Teri (Lori) of Des Moines, Lynn (Francine) and David (Hidei), both of Ft. Collins, CO.; nineteen grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Violet Formanek of Belle Plaine and Joyce Echtenkamp of Omaha; and brother-in-law, James (Jean) Cizek of Chesterfield, MO.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Agnes Poduska Formanek, Sr.; brother, Leo Formanek; and sisters, Violet Rooney and Elsie Formanek.

Irene Ann Gaffey, 87, of Belle Plaine and formerly of the Holbrook area, died Saturday, August 21, 2010 at the Belle Plaine Nursing and Rehab Center following a short illness. A Memorial Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Thursday, August 26 at the Faith Baptist Church located at 1168 78th Street Trail, or east of the corner of 13th Avenue and 8th Street. Private burial will be at a later date. A memorial fund has been established. Hrabak Funeral Home is serving the family.
She is survived by a son, Tim Gaffey of Belle Plaine; daughter, Karen Gaffey of Tiffin; granddaughter, Kiera Gaffey; brother, Frank Horwath of Walton Hills, Ohio; sisters, Mary Kaider of Uniontown, PA and Margaret Thomas of Jappa, MD.
She was preceded in death by her parents and several siblings.

Earlene Joyce Fisher, 77, of Belle Plaine died Sunday, July 25, 2010 at the Belle Plaine Nursing and Rehab Center following a lingering illness.
Services will be 10 a.m. Thursday, July 29, at the Hrabak Funeral Home by Rev. Jack Andrews. Burial will be from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
She is survived by a son, Rod and wife Julie of Belle Plaine; grandsons Allen, Danny and Jamie; great-grandchildren Star and Damien Fisher.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Earl Fisher, Jr., her parents, Earl and Margaret Rush and a sister, Alice Sichra.

Andrew J. Ericson, 83, of Belle Plaine died July 16, 2010 at his home following a lingering illness. Services are 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, July 20 at Hrabak Funeral Home, Belle Plaine. Visitation will be one hour before the service at the funeral home.

Lanny R. Fintel, 65, died Thursday, June 25, 2010 at his home following a courageous battle with cancer. Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m. Monday, June 28 at the First Lutheran Church by Pastors Dean Duncan and Dr. Richard Osslund. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Sunday at the Hrabak Funeral Home and after noon Monday at the church.
He is survived by his wife, Karen; son, Shawn (Karen) of Cedar Rapids; daughter, Sherri (Aaron) Hrabak of Cedar Rapids; brother, Rick (Pam) of Lytle, TX; grandchildren, Dakota, Eriq, and Jazmynn Fintel.
